DBI and startport seal partnership

Duisburg, 29/06/2023 – Duisburg Business & Innovation GmbH has joined the partner network of duisport subsidiary startport.

With its new partner, startport is bringing a strong location development agency on board, thereby strengthening its focus on attracting startups and driving innovation in Duisburg and the surrounding area. This has already been supported by the startport programme for more than five years, strengthening the region economically through innovation.

The cooperation is driving Duisburg forward as an innovation hub

As the city of Duisburg’s location and economic development agency, Duisburg Business & Innovation GmbH (DBI) aims to improve the city’s spatial, social and economic structure. Rasmus C. Beck, CEO of DBI, is pleased about the collaboration: “In Duisburg, we rely on cooperation. For garage DU, we need high-quality startups and therefore draw on the scouting expertise of the long-established Duisburg innovation platform startport. In the future, we also want to jointly implement further projects with the startport network of more than 120 international founders. We see ourselves as Team Duisburg.”

Since last year, Duisburg Business & Innovation GmbH has been focusing, with its “garage DU” project, on innovative progress driven by startups. With topics such as digitalisation, climate action and the circular economy, garage DU is moving the city forward. The highlight is the public Demo Night on 26 October 2023 at Landschaftspark Nord. Selected founder teams will present their innovations on stage and have the chance to be crowned winners by the expert jury at the end. There will also be an extensive innovation fair and much more.

“In the middle of last year, we made a number of changes to the startport programme and sharpened our focus on innovative ideas within the Rhine-Ruhr region. This not only strengthens the Port of Duisburg, but also makes Duisburg more attractive as a location and promotes the settlement of startups in the region,” explains Alexander Garbar, Managing Director of startport.

DBI at a glance

Business and innovation take centre stage – DBI wants to rethink the economy and make Duisburg a strong business location. Binding values are just as important as the standards DBI sets for its own work. Working hand in hand with the city, it focuses on the (inter-)national marketing of Duisburg as a location. As an economic development agency, DBI is leading the way here and convincing others of Duisburg as a valuable and future-proof business location.
