The startport startup Cargo-Bay was able to win duisport agency GmbH (dpa), a subsidiary of Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport), as its first customer and is developing the digital B2B booking platform for multimodal transport for dpa. Cargo-Bay’s logistics platform not only digitises the otherwise analogue freight handling processes, but also digitally connects other companies, branches and employees across Europe. This ensures an optimal process flow and saves time and costs.
Founded in 2015, the logistics startup was accepted into the first batch of startport’s startup programme in 2018 with its innovative booking platform. startport is the innovation platform for logistics and supply chain. During the 12-month startport programme, startport initiated the exchange and the logistics startup was able to win dpa as a customer. “Existing market solutions were not practical and too expensive. That is why we chose the startup Cargo-Bay. The startport team knew dpa’s requirements and was therefore able to set up the project in a targeted way,” explains Gregor Marx, Head of Investments and M&A at duisport.
Digitising transport processes at dpa
As part of the collaboration with dpa, Cargo-Bay developed a customised booking platform. This platform was tailored in particular to the multimodal transport processes to and from China, which had previously still been handled in an analogue and very complex way. Via the developed booking platform, customers receive a complete overview of reliable and cost-effective intermodal transport chains in combined transport. Processing transport orders is now also more efficient, enabling faster delivery to the customer. Feedback on the collaboration is positive: the startup implemented individual requirements in an agile and fast manner, and communication was on an equal footing.
A close-knit collaboration initiated by startport
The collaboration was only made possible by the startport innovation platform. “Without startport, we would not have secured dpa’s contract. High praise—I would definitely recommend the programme,” says Max Dering, CEO and founder of Cargo-Bay. “Even as an alumnus, I still feel like part of startport.” Networking via startport also ensured a positive customer relationship: “The connection to startport makes the cooperation more pleasant,” says Max Dering. “We realised that we are not a typical service provider, but actually belong to the duisport family.” Through the collaboration with dpa, the startup gained visibility and positive media coverage and also attracted the attention of other companies.
