The global logistics company Yusen Logistics is strengthening the STARTPORT network in an international context with a strong presence on the Japanese market, but also with regional ties to the Rhine-Ruhr region. With this cooperation, the new partner supports the innovation platform for logistics and supply chain and, as part of the network partnership, seeks to exchange innovative solutions from startups in the StartPort network.

Large international reach for startport innovation platform

Founded in 1955, Yusen Logistics is a global supply chain logistics company that provides sea and air freight transportation, warehousing, distribution services, and supply chain management. The logistics partner has a network that connects Japan, North and South America, Europe, East Asia, South Asia and Oceania, and operates more than 631 branches in 47 countries and regions.

Dr. Stefan Karenfort, Managing Director and Finance Director at Yusen Logistics Germany, is delighted with the collaboration: “I am fascinated by entrepreneurship and my enthusiasm for innovative ideas and startups makes me start working with startport with confidence. My motivation: Create awareness of the need for innovation in the Group and at the same time tackle various projects in the areas of e-commerce fulfillment and warehouse automation and train myself and my team accordingly. That's where we can make optimal use of startport's event formats and workshops.”

With around 61,000 square meters, Duisburg is Yusen Logistics' largest German warehouse location. The partnership between Yusen Logistics and startport thus creates a local connection to the Port of Duisburg, while at the same time expanding its international reach on the logistics and industrial market. “With Yusen Logistics, we are bringing many years of logistical expertise of over 65 years as well as local and international expertise to our logistics network. Here, our startups as well as our partner companies benefit from networking at our events. Now is the perfect time to start the partnership, as our INNOVATION trade fair FUTURE Logistics kicks off on May 4 at the Duisburg Inland Shipping Museum. I am already looking forward to welcoming representatives from Yusen Logistics there and bringing the innovative solutions and trends of the future closer,” says Johannes Franke, managing director of startport, about the new partnership.

Innovative pilot projects between partners and startups

As a subsidiary of Duisburger Hafen AG, startport has built up a strong partner network over 5 years of existence. This includes regional players such as Bohnen Logistik, Duisburg Intermodal Terminal and Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg. Among other things, they are linked to specific startups in so-called Innovation Challenges and can thus successfully launch pilot projects. Through this new format from startport, tailor-made innovations are assigned to the specific issues faced by companies and promotes innovative strength at the Duisburg location. By funding the incubator program, the partners are also promoting entrepreneurship in the logistics and supply chain sector at the Duisburg location.
